Book Review You are to write a review on a novel of your choice and post it to the Wiki. You must include information on the following in your review:
Setting: Describe the setting of your novel so that someone who hasn’t read it can get a good idea of where and when the story occurs.
Characters: Write about the main characters in the novel. Avoid physical descriptions but explain how they cope with the situation they find themselves in and the challenges they face. What kinds of things do they learn? What are the most important things that happen to them? What do they value most?
Story: Analyse the structure of the story. Write about the beginning – is there a mood of unease, mystery or frustration? Does the story start at the beginning or at the end and then work back? Are flashbacks used? What has happened before the story begins? Does the story use a narrator – from whose point of view it is told?
Relationships: What are the most important relationships in the novel? Are they mostly about families, friends or couples? Is there conflict involved in the relationship? Issues: What kinds of things did the book make you think about? What current and important issues did it deal with? (e.g. the future, growing up, the environment, relationships, responsibility, disease?)
Personal Response: Did you enjoy the novel? How would you describe it to others? What were the most interesting, imaginative, entertaining or disturbing parts of the book? Comment on the style of writing of the author.
